Sprague VitaminQ
Paper in oil signal capacitor. Sealed by paper impregnated with mineral insulating oil called "VitaminQ". It interferes little to low and mid frequencies and filters high frequencies well. VitaminQ's sound is quite comfortable because of appropriate amount of effects and softer distortion.
Kz Guitar Works uses real vintage N.O.S. (new old stock, not reissued one) VitaminQs for all Red Special style guitars.

FreedomCGR Stainless Fret

What is FCGR stainless fret?
In the past stainless fret had a fatal drawback, which was "it is so hard that guitar tone gets too bright". FCGR stainless fret blows away such image of stainless frets by adopting completely new manufacturing approach. FCGR stainless fret can generate sound like one from silver-nickel frets without losing better durability and smoother playability.
Feature of FCGR stainless fret
- Sounds similar to Silver-Nickel frets – responsive and tight
- More durable and higher resistance to abrasion
- Smoother surface for easier vibrato, bending, and glissand
- Antioxidant, clean fret condition (dirty frets blur sound. without frequent maintenance, stainless frets can keep clean condition, which leads to better tonal clarity.)
Since 2006, Kz Guitar Works Red Special has used SP-SF-10 for zero fret and SP-SF-06 for 1-24 frets. SP-SF-06 is similar to Jim Dunlop #6130 . |

Optima Gold strings - 2028BM
Since late 1990s Brian May has been using Optima (former Maxima before acquisition by Optima) Brian May model. It has an irregular gauge combination .009 .011 .016 .024 .032 .042. Since it is 24-karat gold plated, it lasts longer than normal strings in the market.
Brian does not like bright sound from new strings, so he does not change strings until they get worn-out. He replaces only broken strings.

Australian coin
Since late 1990s Brian May has been using Australian 5 cent coin. When British 6 pence which Brian had been using as a pick for a long time, was getting difficult to obtain, Brian met the 5 cent coin through Mr. Greg Fryer.
We have learned that its thickness, diameter, weight, material and number of serration are same as the 6 pences.
Kz guitar works offers a free 5 cent Australian coins for those who buy our products. Those coins are carefully washed after hand-selected by excluding bad conditioned ones.

At the Greg Fryer's Workshop
I visited Mr. Greg Fryer's workshop on 28th of February 2002 in Sydney. I took two "Kz Guitar Works Red Special" prototypes. We discussed more than 6 hours about Red Special. And he gave me some efficient advices.
We compared the sound of the guitars of "Kz Guitar Works" and his replica "paul" there. I found that his replica was very fantastic. I could test the "Deacy" amp replica there. It was also fantastic. I really enjoyed the visit to his workshop and discussions with him. We promised each other to meet again in the near future.
